Why we built it
The shop-management software market has two ends. On one end: legacy desktop tools with interfaces from another decade, manual backups, no mobile access, and customer approvals that mean phone tag. On the other end: enterprise platforms designed for dealership chains and priced per seat, per work order, per shop — the math never works for an independent.
In the middle is everyone running the actual independent shops in the country. The 3 C's workflow they're already taught (Complaint, Cause, Correction) is the industry standard, but most software treats it as free-text notes. CA BAR-compliant invoicing is non-negotiable for California shops, but most platforms bolt it on as an afterthought. Tablet-first inspections are a workflow shift mechanics actually want, but most tools were designed around a desktop at the front counter.
What we built
ShopFlow Auto is a multi-tenant, browser-native SaaS platform built around the way an independent shop actually runs — service writer to mechanic to cashier, intake to invoice. The 3 C's are first-class data, not free text. Photos are evidence. Customer approvals happen on a phone, line by line. Invoices print CA BAR-compliant out of the box. Multi-factor authentication, per-tenant data isolation, and daily off-site backups are defaults, not upgrades.
Migration tooling pulls customer records, vehicles, service history, canned jobs, and suppliers from legacy Microsoft Access databases and similar systems. Production migrations have moved 5,251 customers and 7,634 vehicles with zero lost records and a 99.7% vehicle-description parse rate. Re-runs are idempotent, so cutover happens on a Sunday afternoon, not a closed week.
Every feature came out of a real conversation with a service writer or a mechanic — not a product manager's spec document.
What we believe
- Every concern deserves an answer. If a customer tells you something's wrong, the paperwork should track it to a clear outcome. No "trust us, we looked at it."
- The tablet is the workbench. Mechanics aren't going back to a desktop at the counter. Every inspection surface is designed for a tablet held in gloves.
- Photos resolve more disputes than words. A close-up of a worn brake pad ends an argument before it starts.
- SMS consent is a promise, not a checkbox. Every text is tied to an active service. No marketing, no "special offers," no sold lists. Opt-in lives on its own dedicated page with its own form — never bundled with another agreement. Policy · Subscribe.
- Your data leaves when you do. No lock-in. Export is first-class; so is deletion.
Who's behind it
ShopFlow Auto is a product of Beckham Enterprises, a small software company building tools for small businesses. We write the code, run the servers, answer the phone. There's no sales team. If you're talking to someone about ShopFlow Auto, you're talking to someone who builds it.
