ShopFlow Auto

About

Built for Ruben's Precision Automotive — and shops like it.

ShopFlow Auto didn't start as a business plan. It started with a twenty-year-old Access database and a shop owner who'd outgrown it.

The shop

Ruben's Precision Automotive is an independent repair shop in Fairfield, California. It's run the way a shop should be run: honestly. Customers are told what's wrong, what's optional, and what can wait. Receipts are itemized. Concerns get answered.

What wasn't working was the software. Twenty years of customer records, vehicle history, invoices, and canned jobs lived inside a Microsoft Access database with a user interface from another decade. Mobile access was impossible. Backups were manual. Customer-facing estimates meant phone tag.

The migration

We wrote a Python script that reads the legacy .mdb file and maps it into a modern Postgres schema. The first run pulled in 5,251 customers and 7,634 vehicles, preserving every legacy reference number so cross-checks against old paper invoices still work. Free-text vehicle descriptions parsed into year/make/model with a 99.7% success rate.

None of that required the shop to stop running. The migration is idempotent — re-runs skip records already imported — so the real cutover was a one-hour re-sync on a quiet Sunday.

The platform

What got built on top is ShopFlow Auto: a browser-native, mobile-friendly shop management platform that takes the 3 C's workflow (Complaint / Cause / Correction) seriously, treats photos as first-class evidence, and prints CA BAR-compliant invoices out of the box. Every feature came out of a real conversation with a service writer or a mechanic — not a product manager's spec document.

What we believe

  • Every concern deserves an answer. If a customer tells you something's wrong, the paperwork should track it to a clear outcome. No "trust us, we looked at it."
  • The tablet is the workbench. Mechanics aren't going back to a desktop at the counter. Every inspection surface is designed for a tablet held in gloves.
  • Photos resolve more disputes than words. A close-up of a worn brake pad ends an argument before it starts.
  • SMS consent is a promise, not a checkbox. Every text is tied to an active service. No marketing, no "special offers," no sold lists. We document consent in three channels and the policy explains how.
  • Your data leaves when you do. No lock-in. Export is first-class; so is deletion.

Who's behind it

ShopFlow Auto is a product of Beckham Enterprises, a small software company building tools for small businesses. We write the code, run the servers, answer the phone. There's no sales team. If you're talking to someone about ShopFlow Auto, you're talking to someone who builds it.
